SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT – Presenting Watershed+ innovative artist residency programs

Watershed+  lead artist’s Tristan Surtees and Charles Blanc will be travelling to Lawrence, Kansas.   They will present the Watershed+ program and the Ralph Klein Park residency  in a discussion on global innovative  artist residencies and the potential of incubating arts programming at the Lawrence Arts Center.  

The talk will also include artist Yvonne Mullock, and the Lawrence Art Center’s executive director Susan Tate.

RESIDENCY AT RALPH KLEIN PARK – ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT

We are delighted to announce the first Watershed+ Artist in residence at Ralph Klein Park began working in the new studio last week. Rachel Duckhouse is undertaking a total of 15 weeks split in two periods, she will be making a new body of work, explore issues relevant to Calgary’s watershed, water management and the Ralph Klein Park environment.

About Rachel Duckhouse:

Rachel is a visual artist living and working in the UK. She studied at Leeds College of Art and Winchester School of Art and has been a practicing artist for 14 years. She now specialises in drawing and printmaking. Her recent etchings, screen prints and drawings are abstract, geometric works, that explore ‘how things fit together’. Rachel has exhibited in the UK and USA and her work has been acquired by various private and public collections including The British Museum.

THINKING BIG: Unveiling Public Art Projects
New exhibition featuring WATERSHED+

September 7 – December 23, 2012-09-12 at the Art Gallery of Calgary

Thinking Big: Unveiling Public Art Projects explores the creative energy, technical expertise and complex work required to execute a successful public art project.

The WATERSHED+ Water Fountains, which were launched in Calgary this past Canada Day long weekend, are featured as part of the exhibition. Visit the Art Gallery of Calgary to read about the process of creating the Fountains and for the next two week one of the Fountains will be installed and useable just outside of the Gallery for public use!

The exhibition is co-presented by the City of Calgary Public Art Program and the Alberta Craft Council, in partnership with the Art Gallery of Calgary.

Residency at Ralph Klein Park – ARTISTS SELECTED!

September 12th, 2012

WATERSHED+ is pleased to announce that the first artists in residence have been selected! Over 75 applicants applied for the residency over the summer, a jury made up of artists, community members and City of Calgary staff reviewed submissions and selected 5 artists / collectives to participate in the first year of residencies at Ralph Klein Park. With the studio facilities now complete at RKP, the first residency will start this October! Check back soon for the announcement of the 5 artists selected for the WATERSHED+ Residency.
